As you are very well aware, the COVID-19 pandemic has left us all with many challenges. Getting our players back to hockey is most certainly among these. Over the past six plus weeks the EYHA management team has spent countless hours formulating a program that gets as many players on the ice as permitted, provides an equitable program for all skills levels and to be fiscally responsible. This has been tremendously difficult but with our partnership with the Chiller, other local organizations and USAH, we believe we have been able to create a program that will best cover our requirements.
The biggest challenge has been the limitations place on us for the number of players on the ice. Essentially, we will require the same amount of ice to put 320 on the ice this season for House as we did last season for 400 players. This immediately leaves an enormous shortfall in revenue to cover our operating expenses. We have been creative, selective and have had to make some very tough decisions to get us back to budget neutral yet provide the program and development you expect.
We also realize that things are literally changing by the day. We have tried to create a roadmap where we can make swift adjustments to policy changes without losing stride. We have tried to set the program up so no one area takes the brunt and that all divisions are sharing in the burden of adjustment. The toughest decision we have had to make is for Mini-Mites. We have made a decision along with the Chiller’s guidance to not host a U6 (Mini-Mite) division this season. There are very many reason for this and understand we do not make this decision lightly. If however your player was a first year Mini-Mite last season, he or she will be permitted to play with the mites this season. For those players that do not fall into this category, we direct you to Learn to Play programs through the Chiller.
To accommodate for the shortfall in revenue to cover operating costs, we have made several adjustments to our schedule to reduce our spending. This season we will not have and Opening Night Faceoff, the Mite Classic, CBJ Player Partnership program among other. There will also be a raise in House fees to help cover the shortfall of more than $30,000 due to the lost revenue.
So here are a few points you need to know before we get things underway.
House registration will open promptly on July 1.
House registration will only be open to prior EYHA families for the first two weeks of registration.
Numbers per division will be strictly enforced. Our caps per division are hard numbers.
Mite (see below)
The Columbus House League is an unknown at this time. This will determine how our league is played out in the Squirt/Peewee/Bantam divisions. We will provide more information once we have it.
We do plan to have Select this season although play will be somewhat limited as will tournament attendance. There will be no Tournament teams.
We do plan to have Travel this season as independent teams. Tournament attendance will be limited.
There have been several requests to ‘Play Up’ this season. We will only consider this action if there is an open spot in the upper division. We will not take a spot away from a player to move up another.
We do plan to continue with the Girl’s programs.
Jersey names and numbers will be limited to simplify the process of ordering and distributing.
Spirit wear will be limited due to CONVID-19 restriction in sizing and sales.
The Mite division has been exceptionally difficult to accommodate due to the numbers we expect each season. Therefore, our Mite program will go as follows. There will be four, ten week sessions starting in August and ending in April. Each session will be capped at 60 players and each player will only be permitted two sessions. This will allow us to provide 120 players 20 weeks of hockey which is equivalent to prior years. We are working on the registration process for Mites now and will provide more information when we have it. Registration for Mites will also open on July 1.
Thank you all for your patience and we look forward to seeing you all soon at the rink.
