Women's Hockey in Newark and the Chillers
posted 08/14/2010

This is for all moms, wives, sisters and girlfriends who have shivered through countless games for your hockey-playing pals... it's YOUR TURN!  There is no better way to burn LOTS of calories, get your heart rate up, make friends and network than to play hockey.

Any skill level is welcome. Even if you have only been on figure skates in the past, you will be fine on hockey skates. I think they are easier - no toe-pick to trip over. There is an abundance of used equipment at "Play It Again Sports" and great deals on new stuff at the "Hockey Stop". You could even wear your kid, boyfriend and/or husbands' gear, provided you have enough Lysol and Fabreeze on hand.

If you are a woman and 18 or older, check out these two opportunities:

The Chiller is offering a Wednesday Night Women's Hockey League, please register before August 23. The season starts September 29.
The Chiller's website link:  http://www.thechiller.com/hockey/adult/womens
For questions, contact Martin Spanhel at the Chiller:  614-791-9999x158 or

AND...

Clinic #1 All Adult Beginners Clinic: September 19th (6pm - 7:30pm)
Clinic designed specifically for beginners to the game of hockey for both men and women

Clinic #2 Women's Clinic: September 26th (6pm - 7:30pm) Clinic open to all women in the NWDHL program. Great time for those that went to the Beginner's clinic to get on the ice again.

Fall Season starts October 3rd. This is a "D" league and absolute beginners are absolutely welcome!
For more information on the Women's League in Newark, Contact Angie Cherubini at   and check out the website at:  http://www.myotherdressshoes.com

September Evaluation Notice
posted 07/31/2010

EYHA will hold evaluations for our upcoming season during the month of September.  The schedule is currently posted on the “Upcoming Events” and league calendar.  You must be registered to attend evaluations.    We recommend that all players attend all sessions as scheduled.  The following is information that will make the evaluation process operate smoothly.

Please arrive early to sign in and enter the ice on time.  Please arrive early to first sign in at the registration desk and enter the ice on time.  Place the number on the back of your jersey using four safety pins provided.  Keep your number as you are required to wear it to every evaluation.  At registration you will need to submit a copy of your USA Hockey confirmation, medical consent form, birth certificate for new players and signed parent and player code of conduct.  Now, the player may go to their assigned locker room to get dressed.  Be prepared to take the ice when the doors open.

PARENT MEETINGS

EYHA board members will meet with all parents during the first week of evaluations.  The meeting will take place while your player is on the ice.  We recommend all parents to attend.  Meetings are held in the party room at the Chiller.  We will discuss various topics about the upcoming year.  There will be a question and answer session following the meeting.

MITE AND MINI-MITE DIVISIONS

The Mini-Mite and Mite divisions are scheduled alphabetically by last name.  Minis are to follow the mite schedule.  At the end of the evaluations our USA certified coaches will meet to determine team assignments.  We will have a Mini-Mite team this season for players with 2004-05 birth years.  The rest of the teams will be divided evenly based on skating and skill development.

Each family will receive a telephone call from the players head coach providing team and practice information the weekend of October 2nd and 3rd.  Practices will begin the following week.

SQUIRT AND PEEWEE DIVISIONS

Squirt and Peewee divisions are scheduled based on birth year.  If you are a squirt or peewee player, you may not attend another evaluation because of personal scheduling conflicts.  Our evaluators are looking at players skating and skill development in accordance to USA Hockey's American Developmental Model via major and minor birth years.  We apologize for any inconvenience to your family.

At the end of the evaluations our USA certified coaches will meet to determine team assignments.  Squirt and Peewee players will initially be reviewed based on birth year.  After each player is evaluated, a player may be moved to a major or minor team based on their skating and skills.  For example,

·         From Minor to Major:  A player may be moved to a major birth year team because of above average skating and skills.  The player must be placed in the top 10% overall in skills, ability, and versatility to be considered a move to a major team.

·         From Major to Minor:  A player may be moved to a minor birth year team because of below average skating and skills.  The player must be placed in the lower 10% overall in skills, ability, and versatility to be considered a move to a minor team.  This move is beneficial for players that are affected by gender, stature, and skating/playing ability.

The movements from minor to major teams are different than requests for Playing Up and Playing Down.  The above is still within players assigned division, the other is movement to a different division.  Any movements between birth years will be discussed with parents prior to final placement on a team.

Each family will receive a telephone call from the players head coach providing team and practice information the weekend of October 2nd and 3rd.  Practices will begin the following week.

Squirt and Peewee Joint Statement from EYHA, CCYHA, and CAHA
by posted 06/17/2010

Dear EYHA, CCYHA and CAHA Parents and Players:

We are sending this communication collectively to all parents to announce a new partnership between the three organizations for our squirt and pee wee house programs in the upcoming 2010-2011 season.

Within each organization the squirt and pee wee levels will be divided into major and minor divisions. (Major and minor are terms typically used by USA Hockey to differentiate between younger and older birth years of a two year division.) Teams from each division will then play against the other organizations’ teams from that same division. For example, if EYHA, CCYHA and CAHA have three squirt minor teams, these nine teams will play games against each other throughout the season rather than just playing games against teams within their own organization. CCYHA and CAHA have done this at the pee wee level the last couple of years. Now, all three organizations have agreed to structure their programs in this manner at both the pee wee and squirt level.

We feel this change can bring create benefit to individual player development at these levels and allows for much more interaction between players and parents in each organization which we believe will greatly benefit the overall hockey experience in Columbus.

We will be meeting collectively this summer to discuss specific details regarding game scheduling, player evaluations, etc. but wanted to inform parents now as registration is underway. Be looking for another communication from us later in the summer that will outline more specific details about the upcoming season.

This enhancement at the squirt level, coupled with the inter-league play already established at the Pee Wee and Bantam levels and the combined effort in running the AAA program further strengthens the partnership initiatives between all hockey organizations in town. We appreciate your continued support as we collective try to improve and grow youth hockey in central Ohio.

Lisa Sheline – EYHA President

Mike Rose – CCYHA President

Todd Baker – CAHA President
